In 2021, Sonali Kolhatkar joined YES! Magazine as the racial justice and civil liberties editor, part of an editorial team at one of the nation’s most reputable solutions journalism outlets. She quickly rose to senior editor and YES! adopted her program, renaming it YES! Presents: Rising Up With Sonali. In Spring 2025, YES! Magazine sadly closed its doors permanently.
At YES! Sonali oversaw and edited hundreds of stories, including a special series of reported stories on reparations for Black people called Realizing Reparations among other pieces.
She also wrote several stories for the print magazine and digital platform. Sonali’s 2021 op-ed, “Afghan Feminists Told Us War Wouldn’t Free Them,” won first place for Best Online Political Commentary at the LA Press Club annual awards.
